One Good Deed, A Thousand Benefits

January 13, 2016 – The presentation of specimens Herbarium, Insectarium and other equipment related to the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) as a teaching and learning aid has been held in Level 11, Perak Techno Trade Centre Building (PTTC). The ideology of specimen presentation to UPSI was aimed for learning, research and exhibition. These herbs can be used as a remedy to cure many diseases which can give benefits to society in medical and treatment. “On the other hand, the management was informed that UPSI is actively carrying the research on Herbarium and Insectarium in forests around Perak because of the unique of flora and fauna found in forests which is known as ‘Pocket of Perak’”, said Tuan Sayed Shariffuddin in the ceremony.


Total specimen involved was 5,756 Herbarium Specimen (herbs), 1,509 Insectarium Specimen (insects) gaving a sum of 7,265 specimen being donated. PKNP Group also supply and deliver the equipment components related. In parallel with the programme, Malaysian Forestry Research and Development Board (MFRDB) and PKNP Group has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in the Perak BioD Intellectual Property Initiatives.


Futhermore, the intention of PKNP Group in this handover is very appropriate as UPSI just completed a Zoology and Herbarium Plant Perak which will be developed as an exhibition centre, learning and research under the supervision of Faculty of Science and Mathematics that will house a variety of flora and fauna biodiversity derived from Perak forests. The ceremony was attended by Tuan Sayed Shariffuddin Bin Sayed Shamshuddin, Deputy Chief Executive (Corporate Service) PKNP Group, Encik Nik Azman Nik Abd. Aziz, General Manager Asset and Facilities PKNP Group and PKNP Group staff. Also present during the ceremony were Prof Madya Dr. Zulkifley Bin Mohamed, Dean of Faculty Science and Mathematics (UPSI), Prof Madya Dr. Haniza Hanim Binti Mohd. Zain, Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduates and officers from UPSI.
