PERAK WELCOMES BELGIAN SCRAP TERMINAL DELEGATION TO EXPLORE GREEN SHIP RECYCLING INVESTMENTS IN LUMUT

LUMUT, 9th JUNE 2025 – Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk), Lumut Port, and Port of Antwerp-Bruges International (PoABI) hosted an official visit from Belgian Scrap Terminal (BST), a leading European company specialising in sustainable ship recycling.
The delegation was led by Ms. Caroline Craenhal, Chief Executive Officer of BST, accompanied by Mr. Frederik Hollants, the company’s commercial representative. The visit formed part of BST’s strategic exploration of investment opportunities in Perak’s maritime sector, particularly within the development zone of Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC).
The official programme commenced on 8 June 2025 with a networking dinner attended by Datuk Redza Rafiq, Chief Executive of PKNPk; Dato’ Haji Mubarak Ali Gulam Rasul, Chief Executive Officer of Lumut Port; Mr. Michiel, representative of PoABI; and the BST delegation. The session strengthened strategic ties among stakeholders and laid the foundation for long-term collaboration in high-impact investments in Perak.
On 9 June 2025, the delegation visited several strategic sites within LuMIC, where they were briefed on the area’s potential, existing infrastructure, and future development roadmap aligned with BST’s operational requirements and investment priorities.
The visit underscored BST’s strong interest in expanding its operations and expertise into Southeast Asia, identifying LuMIC as a prime location for advancing green ship recycling activities. PKNPk and PoABI reaffirmed their commitment to supporting this initiative, enhancing the maritime industrial ecosystem and driving sustainable, competitive investments in Perak.
