TANJUNG MALIM, 16th JUNE 2025 – YBhg. Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, Chief Executive of Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk), attended the Majlis Tahlil Perdana organised by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) on 16 June 2025 at the Tuanku Canselor Hall, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, UPSI.

The solemn ceremony was held to commemorate the tragic road accident on 9 June 2025 in Gerik, Perak, which claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students and left many others injured. The incident deeply affected not only the UPSI community but also the wider Malaysian public.

The programme began with recitations of Surah Yasin, Tahlil and prayers for those affected by the tragedy, as well as for the recovery of the injured. This was followed by Maghrib prayers and donations to the UPSI Prihatin Gerik Accident Fund.

Speeches were delivered by YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry bin Abdul Kadir, Minister of Higher Education, and YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr. Md. Amin bin Md Taff, Vice-Chancellor of UPSI. The event was also attended by YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani bin Mohamad, Chief Minister of Perak.

As a gesture of solidarity, YBhg. Datuk Redza Rafiq presented a contribution of RM50,000 on behalf of Lumut Port to support the families of the victims and assist in their recovery efforts.

The Majlis Tahlil Perdana symbolised compassion, unity and unwavering support from the UPSI community during this difficult time.
