MALAYSIA CONTINUES TO ATTRACT FDI AND POISED TO BECOME A GLOBAL LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORTATION CENTRE PERAK’S LUMIC SET TO BENEFIT FROM EU’S EUR 1.9 MIL GRANT

IPOH, 11th DECEMBER 2023 – The European Union (EU) has awarded a EUR 1.9 million grant to Port of Antwerp-Bruges International (PoABI) and Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) at Casuarina@Meru Ipoh that was announced today by His Excellency Mr. Michalis Rokas, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation.
YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani bin Mohamad, the Menteri Besar Perak and Chairman of PKNPk said, "The EU grant is a noteworthy achievement that reaffirms the state of Perak’ value as a significant investment destination. It will also be a catalyst to unlock Lumut’s massive potential as a formidable engine of inclusive, economic growth for Perak. Together with our collaborative partner PoABI, we look forward to kicking off this comprehensive study to develop a robust blueprint in transforming Lumut into a world-class maritime hub."
Leveraging Perak’s inherent potential and strategic location, PKNPk and Poabi inked a Joint Venture Shareholders' Agreement (JVSA) to establish LuMIC Development Sdn Bhd (LuMIC DevCo) as the special purpose vehicle for the joint development and management of LuMIC.
The JVSA was signed by Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, Chief Executive, PKNPk, and Mr Kristof Waterschoot, Managing Director, PoABI. The Menteri Besar of Perak and Chairman of PKNPk, YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani bin Mohamad, along with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Malaysia, His Excellency Mr Peter Van Acker, and the Ambassador and Head of the E.U. Delegation to Malaysia, H.E. Michalis Rokas, were present as witnesses, emphasizing the international significance of the event.
YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani bin Mohamad also presented certificates of participation to the first batch of 10 students (based on 25 students for Cohort 1) from a total of 100 students from Perak, marking the first batch of interns to embark on the prestigious internship programme.
